Bed & Breakfast near Hay-on-Wye
The B&B offers two ‘suites’, both with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and equally appealing. Possibly Chatwin Suite is more suitable for couples while Kilvert affords space for slightly larger groups (up to 4) to chill out. Both have equally well appointed facilities, although Kilvert does had the added extra of the wood-burner (with marshmallows for toasting). Chatwin has access to a granary steps area where it is possible to sit in the sun.
Furnished in a comfortable and quirky style, complete with deep feather filled duvets, this Hay-on-Wye B&B aims to provide you with a relaxed and peaceful place to take five. Breakfast is an organic feast with emphasis on locally-sourced produce. Individual dietary requirements can be catered for if advised of in advance.
There is no TV, for one good reason, there is so much to do you won’t miss it! But there is plenty of reading material should you require it. Dol-y-Gaer B&B Hay-on-Wye offers the opportunity to escape from hectic modern lifestyles and soak up a slower pace, where you can unwind or interact with the natural environment on your doorstep.
Dol-y-Gaer is a family-run Hay-on-Wye B&B based in a converted stone barn, within walking distance of Hay-on-Wye - world renowned for its second hand and antiquarian bookshops. Although walking distance to town it is situated equidistant between the village of Clyro and Hay town.
Hay-on-Wye’s unique position on the border between England and Wales makes it ideal for visitors to explore and enjoy the stunning border country, wilderness of the Black Mountains or tread one of the official walking paths that pass nearby (including Offa’s Dyke path).
Our addition to this incredible natural backdrop is Dol-y-Gaer B&B Hay-on-Wye, set within a private courtyard and walking distance from Hay itself. The barn has stunning views across Hay-on-Wye town and Hay Bluff from its wild flower meadow garden and across an ancient Roman hill fort on the other side - towards the village of Clyro, famous for Rev Francis Kilvert’s diaries and often referred to as ‘Kilvert country’.
Chris and Jules can recommend great walks, runs or cycle routes and aim to help you get the most out of your stay from their Hay-on-Wye B&B – maps are available to borrow. Jules recently completed the Brecon Beacons Ambassador course and is armed with new and insightful information as a result.
An ecological approach to lifestyle is at the heart of everything that goes on from the washing liquid to the floor cleaner and we hope to share these ethics with you without swamping you with worthiness!
